Project and Technical Questions
-
What is the difference between rapid prototyping and rapid tooling?
Rapid prototyping is used to produce early parts for design validation, fit checks, functional testing, and product development. Depending on the part requirements, prototype parts may be made by CNC machining, 3D printing, vacuum casting, or other suitable processes.
Rapid tooling is typically considered when a project requires injection-moulded parts for pilot runs, market testing, pre-production evaluation, or low-volume manufacturing. The most suitable process depends on part geometry, material, quantity, tolerances, surface requirements, quality expectations, and target delivery schedule.
-
Can you match a specified colour?
We can review colour requirements using a Pantone reference, RAL reference, colour chip, physical sample, or an existing production part. Final colour results depend on the selected material, manufacturing process, surface finish, and approval requirements.
Payment Terms and Methods
-
What are your payment terms?
For prototype orders, payment in advance is generally required before manufacturing begins. Payment arrangements for repeat customers may be reviewed on a project-by-project basis.
For tooling projects, the standard payment arrangement is 50% in advance before tooling production begins and 50% after sample approval, unless otherwise stated in the quotation or order confirmation.
If sample approval is delayed for more than 30 days after the first sample shipment, or if a project is delayed because of customer-requested design changes, the remaining 50% tooling balance will be due before work continues. Any changes to pricing, lead time, tooling, or production requirements will be reviewed and confirmed with the customer before manufacturing resumes.
For production orders, payment in advance is generally required before manufacturing begins, unless different terms are confirmed in the quotation or order documentation.
-
What payment methods do you accept?
NICE Rapid accepts bank-to-bank wire transfers to its Hong Kong or China accounts. PayPal payment may also be available, subject to the project and invoice arrangement.
General Questions
-
How quickly can I receive a quotation?
We aim to respond to new enquiries within one business day. Quotation timing depends on the completeness and complexity of the project information. Projects involving complex geometry, tooling, specialised materials, tight tolerances, or detailed quality requirements may require additional engineering review.
-
What types of files do you accept?
STEP and IGES files are preferred for quotation and manufacturing review. Where critical dimensions, tolerances, threads, materials, surface finishes, colours, or inspection requirements need to be specified, please also provide a 2D drawing.
-
How do I start a project?
To start a project, submit a Request a Quote form or email your project information to enquiry@nice-rapidtooling.com.
Please include available 3D files or 2D drawings, target quantity, material, colour, surface finish, critical dimensions or tolerances, inspection requirements, and target delivery date.
-
Can I provide a target price for my project?
Yes. If you have a target price, please include it with your enquiry. Our team can review the part design, material, process, quantity, and quality requirements to identify a suitable manufacturing approach for your project.
-
Do you sign NDAs?
Yes. NICE Rapid can review and sign a confidentiality agreement before you share sensitive project information. You may send us your NDA, or contact our team to request our standard confidentiality agreement.
