Surface Treatment Process - Anodizing
By NICE Rapid | Feb 23 , 2020

The oxidation process of the prototype model adopts artificial methods to form an oxide film (Al2O3) on the surface of aluminum and its alloy products and apply different colors to improve the abrasion resistance of the aluminum material, extend the service life and increase the beautiful color. The basic process of oxidizing and coloring of the prototype model is the aluminum surface treatment, oxidation, coloring, and subsequent hydration sealing and organic coating.

Aluminum oxide: On the surface of aluminum, an oxide film of 10 to 100 angstroms is maintained under natural conditions, and the thickness of the artificial oxide film is controlled to 0.5 to 250 microns according to different purposes. The methods of artificial film formation include chemical oxidation and electrochemical oxidation (ie, anodizing).

Chemical oxidation: The surface purification treatment of aluminum or aluminum alloy is carried out in an oxidation solution containing an oxidant and an active agent to chemically react to form an oxide film. The role of the active agent is to partially dissolve the oxide film during the formation process, to generate pores, to continue the oxidation, and to thicken the oxide film. There are many types of oxidation solutions, often using chromate as the oxidant and carbonate as the active agent.

Anodizing is usually performed in an electrolyte solution such as sulfuric acid, oxalic acid, or chromic acid. With aluminum as the anode and lead and other metals as the cathode, under the action of a direct-current electric field, anions (OH) move to the anode, and new oxygen is generated at the anode to interact with aluminum as the anode to form an oxide film. In the electrolyte, the acid can locally dissolve the oxide film and generate pores, so that the oxidation reaction can develop in depth. This method forms a porous structure on the surface of aluminum, which can be subjected to various coloring treatments, and can be used as a primer for spray painting.

Nice Rapid advice: If you want the samples to have the following characteristics, we recommend that you choose the oxidation treatment: Protective, Decorative, Insulation, Improve adhesion with organic coatings, Improved adhesion to inorganic coatings.
