Vacuum Casting Prototypes

Vacuum Casting technology is to use prototypes of products (usually the prototypes are made by CNC or 3D printing) to make a silicone mold under vacuum environment, and to pour materials such as PU, ABS under vacuum environment, thereby to copy the products that similar with the prototypes. 

Vacuum casting technology is applicated in lots of areas, such as plastic auto car rapid prototyping, Medical devise equipment prototypes, digital prototypes, transparent PMMA and PC…. also the transparent or colored polyurethane….

There are lots of advantages of vacuum casting: 

1. Low cost, short production cycle. Less waste, processing cost is much lower than CNC processing and 3D printing.

2. Applicable to the processing and production of small batches of products. After making an original version, you can copy it according to the original version. CNC machining requires lathes to be produced one by one.

3. Good mold making operability. The soft molds after curing are transparent or translucent, with good tensile strength, easy to cut and type.

4. The chance of processing failure is small. As long as there is no problem with the original version, the copy will naturally not go wrong.

5. Good repeatability. The silicone used for molding has good fluidity before curing. With the vacuum defoaming, it can accurately maintain the detailed structure and decoration of the model.

But vacuum casting also has the problem of easy shrinkage deformation, because it will be collected after high temperature heating and then cooling, which will lead to deformation, the general error is about 0.2mm. And the vacuum casting prototypes generally can only withstand high temperature of about 60 degrees, in strength the hardness and hardness are also lower than CNC hands.
