CNC Machining-How To Judge The Quality of Aluminum Alloy Prototypes?
By Nice Rapid | Mar 26 , 2020

Aluminum alloy is one of the materials commonly used in CNC Machining. Aluminum alloy is also become mainstream product in industry. Therefore, how do we judge the quality of the product? It can be from the following aspects.

1. Chroma of aluminum

The same batch of aluminum, the color should be same as well. If the color difference is obvious, it is unqualified. Usually the color is silver-white, and texture is uniform.  If the color is dark, it can be judged as recycled aluminum or waste aluminum forging.

2. Strength of aluminum

You can use your hand to bend parts slightly. If you bend it without effort, the strength will not meet the standard. Of course, the strength of aluminum is not as hard as possible. Aluminum has a certain toughness and is not a hard material. It can be forged into different shapes with this characteristic.

3. Thickness of aluminum

The wall thickness of 5000 series, 6000 series and 7000series, the thickness is 1.2-2.0mm.

4. Anodization surface

The aluminum parts have good surface after anodization. You can scratch the surface to see if the oxide film on the surface can be wiped.

5. Flatness of aluminum surface

Generally, the surface of aluminum alloy should have no depressions or bulges, and the surface should be flat and bright.

If the surface is slightly uneven, such an aluminum alloy is easily to get deformation after anodization.

6. Gloss of aluminum

After CNC Machining, usually the surface of aluminum is gloss. If there are open air bubbles and ash residue on the surface, and obvious defects such as cracks, burrs, peeling, etc., it can be judged as secondary processing of recycled aluminum or waste aluminum. Due to the uneven texture of this material, the alloy ratio is disordered, and the later oxidation is prone to cracking.
